StopCheck Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information StopCheck collects, how that information is used, when it may be shared, and the choices available to users.

Effective Date: September 10, 2026

StopCheck is designed to help people identify potential scam warning signs before they click a link, call a number, send money, or provide personal information.

By using StopCheck, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

1. Information We Collect

StopCheck may collect information you provide directly to the app.

Account Information

When you create a StopCheck account, we may collect:

  • Your email address
  • Your account identifier
  • Authentication information required to securely access your account

Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and are not stored by StopCheck in readable form.

Information You Submit for Scam Analysis

When you use StopCheck to check something suspicious, you may submit:

  • Screenshots or photographs
  • Text messages
  • Email content
  • Website addresses or links
  • Phone numbers
  • Descriptions of phone calls or other communications
  • Other information you voluntarily provide for analysis

StopCheck processes this information to identify potential scam warning signs.

Scan Results

StopCheck may save information associated with a scan, including:

  • Risk level
  • Possible scam type
  • Analysis summary
  • Warning signs
  • Recommended actions
  • Safety warnings
  • Date and time of the scan

This information is stored so you can access your Scan History.

Trusted Person Information

If you choose to add a Trusted Person, StopCheck may store:

  • Their name
  • Their email address
  • Their relationship to you

This information is used only to help you contact that person when you choose to request a second opinion.

Feedback

If you provide feedback about a StopCheck result, we may collect:

  • Whether you believe the analysis was helpful or incorrect
  • An optional comment
  • The scan associated with the feedback

We use this information to evaluate and improve StopCheck.

2. How We Use Information

We may use information submitted to StopCheck to:

  • Analyze content for potential scam indicators
  • Generate explanations of identified warning signs
  • Recommend safer next steps
  • Save and display your Scan History
  • Allow you to review previous results
  • Allow you to share a submission and its analysis with your Trusted Person
  • Evaluate and improve the reliability of StopCheck
  • Detect misuse or excessive use of the service
  • Maintain the security and operation of StopCheck

StopCheck does not guarantee that any communication is safe, legitimate, fraudulent, or malicious.

3. Artificial Intelligence Processing

StopCheck uses artificial intelligence technology to analyze information submitted by users.

Content submitted for analysis may be securely transmitted to an artificial intelligence service provider, including OpenAI, for the purpose of generating the scam analysis.

The information sent may include the screenshot, message, link, phone number, or description you submitted.

Users should avoid submitting information that is not necessary for scam analysis, including:

  • Passwords
  • Authentication or verification codes
  • Social Security numbers
  • Full bank account numbers
  • Full credit or debit card numbers
  • Other highly sensitive information

4. Storage of Submitted Information

StopCheck may store the original information you submit along with the associated analysis.

For example, StopCheck may store:

  • The original message you pasted
  • The website address you checked
  • A phone number and the description you provided
  • A copy of a screenshot or photograph you submitted

Stored information is associated with your StopCheck account and protected using account-based access controls.

Screenshots and photographs are stored in private cloud storage and are not publicly accessible.

5. Sharing With Your Trusted Person

StopCheck allows you to voluntarily share a suspicious submission with a Trusted Person.

StopCheck does not automatically send your information to your Trusted Person. You must choose to use the Ask Trusted Person feature.

When you do, StopCheck may prepare an email containing:

  • The StopCheck risk assessment
  • Possible scam type
  • Analysis summary
  • Warning signs
  • Recommended actions
  • The original information you submitted

For messages, links, and phone numbers, the original information may be included directly in the prepared email.

For screenshots or photographs, StopCheck may create a private temporary link to the image. These image-sharing links currently expire after approximately 7 days.

The underlying image may remain stored as part of your Scan History until you delete the associated history or your account.

The email is sent through your device's email application. StopCheck does not control the privacy or security practices of your email provider or the recipient's email provider.

6. Scan History and Deletion

StopCheck allows users to maintain a history of previous scam checks.

Your Scan History may contain both:

  • The original content you submitted
  • The StopCheck analysis of that content

You may delete Scan History within the app.

When Scan History containing stored screenshots is deleted, StopCheck is designed to also remove the associated stored images.

You may also permanently delete your StopCheck account from within the app. Account deletion is designed to remove your account and associated StopCheck data, including Scan History, saved screenshots, Trusted Person information, feedback, and related usage records.

Account deletion cannot be undone.

7. Service Providers

StopCheck relies on third-party service providers to operate the app. These providers may include:

Supabase
Used for authentication, database services, secure cloud storage, and backend functions.
OpenAI
Used to analyze submitted content and generate scam-risk assessments.
Expo / EAS
Used to develop, build, and distribute the StopCheck application.

These providers may process information according to their own privacy and security practices.

StopCheck does not sell your personal information to advertisers.

8. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect user information. These measures include features such as:

  • User authentication
  • Account-based database access
  • Row Level Security
  • Private cloud storage
  • Temporary signed links for shared screenshots
  • Server-side access controls
  • Rate limiting intended to reduce abuse

However, no internet-connected service can guarantee absolute security.

9. Data Retention

Information may remain stored while your StopCheck account and Scan History remain active.

Users can remove Scan History within the app or permanently delete their account.

We may retain certain information when reasonably necessary to:

  • Maintain service security
  • Prevent fraud or abuse
  • Resolve technical problems
  • Comply with legal obligations

Temporary links created to share screenshots with a Trusted Person currently expire after approximately seven days.

10. Your Choices

You control what information you submit to StopCheck. You may:

  • Choose whether to submit something for analysis
  • Choose whether to add a Trusted Person
  • Choose whether to contact your Trusted Person
  • Remove your Trusted Person
  • Delete your Scan History
  • Permanently delete your account
  • Choose whether to provide feedback

You should only submit information you are comfortable providing for scam analysis.

11. Children

StopCheck is not designed for children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

If we learn that such information has been collected, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.

12. Important Safety Notice

StopCheck is an informational tool intended to help users recognize potential scam warning signs.

StopCheck is not a substitute for law enforcement, your bank, your financial institution, your technology provider, emergency services, or professional legal or financial advice.

Artificial intelligence can make mistakes.

A low-risk result does not mean a communication is guaranteed to be safe.

When in doubt, stop and independently verify the situation using trusted contact information.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as StopCheck changes.

If we make material changes, we may update the effective date and provide notice through the application or our website where appropriate.
